June 2014

Back when I got hitched, my Mom had a great idea of picking up a local newspaper on the day of our wedding as a sweet memento that could serve as a time capsule to bring us back to what was going on around the time of our wedding. I had lofty plans of making an old-school scrapbook (with J's dried boutonniere, wedding programs, etc.) and I thought the newspaper would make a great addition to the scrapbook. Well, with everything that was going on, none of us remembered to find a newspaper stand on the day of our wedding so I ended up with a paper from the following day - definitely not as cool. I still haven't gotten around to making the scrapbook but I do have everything tucked away in a box waiting for me. ;) Maybe I'll get around to it in time for our 6th wedding anniversary this fall (6th?!?).

What do you think? Would you try to pick up a paper on your wedding day?

Editor's Note: I'm pulling this post from the archives because the cheerful summer vibe feels just right for today - hope you agree!

I thought it would be a perfect day to drench the blog in sun and cheer with one of the prettiest engagement sessions I've seen in a long while. Thanks to one of my fave photographers, Patricia Kantzos, for submitting Micah and Patrick's photos taken in Central Park, NYC, in the summer of 2012:

Is this not the cutest engagement outfit? Hello, summer!

Aren't they the cutest?!

Over the past few months, I've been busy stocking my wedding boutique with pretty vintage finds that will make your wedding shine. Today, I thought I'd share a few pieces from my shop that could be your perfect something blue (and/or something old):

This old-school Tiffany blue-colored fan takes me right back to summer days of visiting my great-grandmother in the upcountry of South Carolina when I was just a wee thing. I think its charm would be well placed at an outdoor summer wedding, don't you? A graceful way to cool off guests!
Find details and ordering info about this retro-licious fan here.

Whether you want to type your love a sappy wedding day letter or provide guests with a fun + quirky way to leave notes in lieu of a guestbook, this chic Tiffany blue-colored typewriter will do it all in style!

Antique mason jars will always make darling vases. I especially love seeing them holding creamy white flowers at a coastal wedding. They can look positively dreamy lining a wooden altar in front of the sea. Shop the full collection of my blue mason jars here.

See the full collection of my shop's blue wares here. There's also lots of other pretties for your wedding - from vintage bridal attire to cake toppers to all sorts of French treasures! Hope you stop by for a look! xx.

I'm one of those girls who wear pearls everyday (even to the gym!) so they were a no-brainer for my wedding. But whether they're already an everyday staple for you or not, they are, imho, as classic as you can possibly get for your wedding day. Here's a few of my favorite styles right now:

Credits: 1: Mikimoto Prestige Rose Gold earrings; 2: Mise en Dior Tribal earrings; 3: Tiffany Signature Pearl Earrings (the style I wore on my wedding day!); 4: Tiffany Signature Pearl earrings

ps. I also have a set of vintage faux-pearl earrings for sale in my wedding boutique, CBV! And at $65.00, they're a steal:

Are you wearing pearls for your wedding day? I'd love to hear what style you'll be wearing!! xx.

June 2014

Years ago, when J&I lived on the Mississippi Coast, we'd try to weekend in New Orleans as often as we could. The soul and energy found there will always make it one of my favorite cities. So it's no surprise I'm loving the easy elegance of this wedding by Southern Charm Weddings Louisiana in the Big Easy. / Photos by Elizabeth Ray.

After trying on what seemed like a thousand and one dresses, at a thousand and one dress stores (I'm being a little overdramatic), I finally found THE ONE. One afternoon, my mom and I went to Yvonne Lafleur to try on some more bridal gowns. And, just like they say, "when you know, you know," that's exactly how it happened. When I tried on the dress and walked out of the dressing room and stood up on that pedestal, my mom CRIED. And, I JUST KNEW.

We chose to get married and have our reception at Race and Religious in NOLA. We found the place incredibly intriguing through online pictures, and we immediately fell in love once we visited. It was the first and only place we looked at, but one look was all it took!

A few weeks before the wedding, Jonathan's sister asked me if I would want to wear one of their mother's rings on my wedding day. See, Jonathan's mother had passed away in the early part of our relationship, and I never had the opportunity to meet her. So when Sarah asked if I would like to wear one of her rings, I was beyond honored and felt extremely special. I loved, loved, loved being able to have a part of her with me on one of my best days.

Brittany + Jonathan's Love Story
Jonathan and I met each other at Lucy's Retired Surfers bar in NOLA. It was the night before Halloween 2010, I was on my way to a costume party, and Jonathan was out celebrating after his sister's wedding. We ended up being introduced by a mutual friend, and the rest is history=) But if you were to ask Jonathan, he would say something along the lines of how I was dressed in a naughty elf costume, and he was all tuxed out, so neither of us stood a chance.

The style I wanted to to portray throughout our wedding celebration: Romantic. We played a lot with lighting, especially candlelight, for the ceremony and reception. We had beautiful string lights draped across the courtyard where we were married, gorgeous candle arrangements on every table, and even had the fireplaces burning during the reception. IT LOOKED AMAZING!

My favorite memory from our wedding day is when I walked down the aisle. I tried to take the walk slowwww, while taking everything in. And magical is the only way to describe it. It felt so so good to have all of our family and friends there to celebrate with us, and with all eyes on me, I sort of choked up a bit. I just felt an overwhelming sense of love and support as I made my way up to Jonathan. I couldn't wait to say " I DO." A close second to that, is when Jonathan danced alone with our daughter, Blakely, after my dad and I danced together . When he twirled our little one year old baby around the dance floor, I fell in love with him all over again.

Brittany's advice: "To all the brides-to- be out there: Try not to stress! (easier said than done), but your wedding day will go by so quickly. RELAX and BREATHE."
